Feel a little trepidation before entering your classroom? You're not alone! Whether you're already teaching, a newly credentialed graduate, or a substitute looking to transition to full-time, this course will provide you with proven tools, tips, and tricks to make your early years in the classroom a breeze.Teaching is a balancing act, and it requires a blend of subject expertise and classroom skills to reach all of your diverse learners. In this informational and interactive six-week course, you'll learn the particulars of running a motivational classroom that will feel like home to your students. You'll find out how to write winning lesson plans, reach diverse learners through differentiated instruction, communicate clearly, plan memorable events, and most important, keep stress at bay so you can feel good about going to work every morning.

 

Classes start approximately every 6 weeks.

Trip to Boston

All aboard the Downeaster for Boston's Museum of Fine Arts and the North End with Chris Toy. We will board the morning train from Portland and head to Boston on the Downeaster. Then we'll hop on the subway for the Museum of Fine Arts where you'll be free to wander the galleries before heading to the North End for your choice of dozens of restaurants offering awesome pizza, pasta, seafood, and pastries. If there is time, we will check out Haymarket and the Boston Market before heading back to the Downeaster and back to Maine! The trip includes transportation via

Amtrak and MBTA. Train departs from the Portland Station at 8:20 AM and returns from Boston at 7:20 PM.

No refunds.

Whole Body Yoga - Section III

Whole Body Yoga

Whole Body Yoga will move us beyond our breath and into a creative, flowing sequence each week. Sun Salutations will be incorporated throughout the class and provide us energy and strength. Sun Salutations are very powerful and touch each muscle in the body; that is why we call this class Whole Body Yoga for a full body experience. Please dress comfortably and bring a yoga mat! No class 2/19, 2/21, 4/16, 4/18.

Section I: Tuesdays, 1/15 – 2/26, 6:30 – 7:45 PM for 6 sessions

Section II: Tuesdays, 3/12 – 4/23, 6:30 – 7:45 PM for 6 sessions

A recent transplant to Maine, Sonya Brockman received her YOGA ALLIANCE RYT-200 training in 2015 She has also trained in prenatal yoga, restorative yoga, children’s yoga, and most recently, Yoga for All Bodies. She has taught yoga in North Carolina, Colorado, and is happy to be teaching in her newly adopted home here in Maine. Her classes emphasize safe alignment and building strength, endurance, and flexibility.

You are Fabulous: Essential Oils for Emotional Well-Being

You are Fabulous: Essential Oils for Emotional Well-Being

In this one night class, we will be using the book I Am Fabulous by Desiree Mangandog, to learn about how emotional and spiritual health affects one’s physical health and well being. After reviewing and discussing several of the blends, students will have the opportunity to make a roller bottle blend (or two) for a materials fee of $5 each. The book is not required, however purchasing it is strongly suggested in order to have the recipes to make the blends on your own.

Certified Essential Oil Coach through the AADP (American Association of Drugless Practitioners), and an overall health enthusiast, with special interest in alternative health. Elissa is excited to share her enthusiasm and knowledge of essential oils with anyone who is interested in learning about them.
