Quilt-as-you-Go!
with Donna Brookings
Got a sewing machine collecting dust in your closet? Get it out of there and put it to work creating this Split Rail Fence quilt in six weeks. We'll cover all the steps needed to make your quilt: cutting fabrics, sandwiching with batting and quilting your pieces. The beauty of a quilt-as-you-go is that when it's done, it's done! You'll finish your class with a completed quilt, suitable for gifting or just for snuggling.
Materials to bring:
2 yards each of 3 different 100% cotton fabrics
7 yards of 1 solid (not white) coordinating fabric
2 large spools of coordinating thread
Straight quilting pins
Sewing machine (in good working order)
Sewing machine attachments and tools (especially seam ripper)
Rotary cutting kit (mat - 18" X 24"), ruler (5" X 24"), cutter (get the large one, you'll be glad you did)
Notes:
- Mardens is an excellent resource for affordable cotton fabrics, and often tool kits and rotary cutting kits.
- We have some fabrics you may use if needed.
Advanced Watercolor from Life

This course builds on Basic Watercolor from Life. Students will learn how to build an initial sketch to work from, become more expressive with line and stroke, work with limited color palettes, integrate ink into a watercolor drawing, and work from subjects like still life, a live model, and self portraiture. A suggested supply list will be provided.

Ferment This! Sauerkraut (with decorations for gift giving)

You’ll learn a basic tried and true sauerkraut recipe, technique and troubleshooting. Then we'll add various vegetable shapes and designs along the sides for a beautiful presentation - these make excellent gifts. Local delicious cabbage makes ferments that last for months, and maintains flavor and nutrient content. You'll learn about the marvelous microorganisms that surround us, give us “terroir” and keep us healthy by replenishing our microbiomes. This hybrid class will include both microbiology and ferment creation. Instructor Emma Holder, Masters in Micro/Immuno, McGill University.
Porch Sign Painting

You have seen these tall wood signs propped up on people’s front entrances. Now you can make them yourself. These signs are 48” tall and 9.5” wide. You get to choose ahead of time your stencil design with many seasonal and holiday designs to choose from and your projects background paint/stain color. When you arrive to class you get to do all the fun stuff. There will be a lot of paint colors to choose from to make your project your own. The class is instructor-led, so you will have the experience of Gabrielle to guide you along the way. Learn how to avoid those nasty bleeds on your project and stencil with confidence. When you leave, you take home that evening a beautiful project. Materials fee of $20 (cash please) is payable to the instructor at class.
