Typing Skills for ESOL Students

This instructor-monitored class is designed for any ESOL student who wants to learn or improve typing skills essential for success in many other classes and in everyday life. Good typing skills also make it easier to navigate mobile devices such as tablets and cellphones. Students will learn using Typing.com, an online learning software through lessons, games, and more to take the learner from beginner to advanced in self-paced lessons done from home. Students who do not have a keyboard-based device, desktop computer, or other technology may be eligible for a loan of such while participating in this course.

Reading and Writing Essentials for ESOL

Calendar Current session started Sep 8, 2020 at 9 am, runs for 15 weeks

Students will practice reading English used in life, for work, school, and entertainment. The class will also give students practice writing English paragraphs and essays for formal correspondence and academic writing. This course is for ESOL students who tested as high advanced on the CASAS test (221 or higher).

Both Reading and Writing Essentials and Reading and Writing Foundations for ESOL courses meet at the same time allowing students to interact in groups of various levels. Rolling admission. Call 207-892-1819 to set up an appointment with ABE Coordinator Cathy Giuffre-Renaud.

Students will practice reading everyday English used in the community, such as newspapers, doctor’s instructions and mail. The class will also give students practice writing basic English sentences and paragraphs through letter writing, short stories and more. This course is for ESOL students who tested as high beginner to high intermediate on the CASAS test (200–220). Rolling admission.

Computers for ESOL

Being comfortable with technology is necessary in our personal and professional lives. This class is for students with beginner-level understanding of computers and other tools of technology. Instructor Bill Keller uses his teaching and technology expertise to help students improve their computer literacy skills and become comfortable with technology. Call the ABE Coordinator to register for this and other ESOL classes. This class will be held in-person or online based on CDC guidance. No class 11/26.

This program assists students in reading, writing, speaking and listening in English. Instruction is designed to meet learners’ needs and can include preparation for the citizenship test upon request. Rolling admission. Students must meet with ABE Coordinator for registration and testing. This class will run either in-person or on-line per CDC guidance. The days and times will be the same. No classes 10/12 and 11/11.

Virtual Theater - Script Reading

How would you like to delve into some great scripts and read them together with other theater enthusiasts? We will read and discuss scripts one evening a week for 6 weeks. We will read two scripts during this course, “A Raisin In The Sun” - Lorraine Hansbury & “You Can’t Take It With You” - Moss Hart & George Kauffman. Each session will run aproximately 90 minutes.
