Conversational English for ESOL

ESOL students will practice speaking, listening and understanding everyday English conversation in many different situations, such as on the telephone, going to the doctor, and applying for a job. Students will learn and practice pronunciation of English sounds. They will practice forming spoken sentences correctly. Students will also learn how to use many resources to help them study English conversation beyond the classroom. Rolling admission is dependent upon available space. Call Cathy Renaud at 892-1819 to set up an appointment for pre-testing and placement. Mariah Bushnell, an instructor with WRAE for the past two years, is passionate about the work she does with the ESOL population as well as dedicated to welcoming all her students into their new communities.

Instruction is designed to meet learners’ needs. Classes will be held Tuesdays & Thursdays, 10am to Noon and Wednesdays, 6pm to 8pm. ESoL Evening

This program assists students in reading, writing, speaking and listening in English.

Instruction is designed to meet learners’ needs and can include preparation for the citizenship test upon request. Our evening instructor, Shelly Cook, has been teaching Middle School in Windham for 18 years and began teaching ESoL last year for Windham Adult Education. Students must meet with Cathy Renaud for ESoL placement before the first session. Call 207-892-1819 to set up an appointment for pre-testing and placement. No classes 1/16, 2/20, 2/22, 4/17, & 4/19.

Reading and Writing Essentials for ESOL

Reading and Writing Essentials for ESOL

The class will also give students practice writing English paragraphs and essays for formal correspondence and academic writing. This course is for ESOL students who tested as high advanced on the CASAS test (221 or higher). Students must meet with ABE Coordinator Cathy Renaud for ESOL placement. Call 892-1819 to set up an appointment for pre testing and registration. Mariah Bushnell, the instructor, has taught at WRAE for the past two years. Mariah is passionate about the work she does with the ESOL population and is dedicated to welcoming all her students into their new communities.

Reading and Writing Foundations for ESOL

Reading and Writing Foundations for ESOL

Students will practice reading everyday English used in the community, like newspapers, doctor’s instructions, and mail. The class will also give students practice writing basic English sentences and paragraphs in letter writing and short stories. This course is for ESOL students who tested as high beginner to low intermediate on the CASAS test

(200-220). Students must meet with ABE Coordinator Cathy Renaud for ESOL placement. Call 892-1819 to set up an appointment for pre-testing and registration. Kathy Floyd, the instructor, has been teaching ESOL, HiSET, and High School Diploma at WRAE since 2009. She received the New Teacher of the Year award from the Maine Adult Education Association for the 2009-2010 school year.
