Knitting Class

with Karen Savage

Calendar Feb 6, 2019 at 6:30 pm, runs for 9 weeks

Knitting Class

If you have always wanted to learn to knit or if you have that unfinished project hiding in the back of the closet, come to this class. Get started with the basics and take the mystery out of terms like “psso” or a “three needle bind off.” The first class is a one-hour introduction to discuss the projects you want to work on, the supplies you’ll need, and just a time to get to know each other better. No class 2/20.

Instructor: Karen Savage

Wednesdays, 2/6 – 4/10, 6:30 – 8:30 PM for 9 sessions

Location: Windham High School – Room 124

Fee: $59

Karen Savage learned to knit as a defense mechanism after moving to Maine in January, 2002; it was the only way to make it through the winter. She is a geologist and database nerd who loves cooking, home canning, spinning yarn, and talks too much about her pet chickens.

My First Sock

Have you always wanted to knit socks but too shy to try? Have you a fear of turning the heel? Or maybe you’ve never used double-pointed needles before. Put a handmade spring in your step as you knit your first, favorite pair of socks. Use yarns you love to make beautiful, comfortable socks with step-by-step guidance. Knit in the round using your favorite method. Work your sock leg in stockinette with no gaps, before creating a heel flap that's shaped to curve gently around the back of your foot. Finish the sides of your heel flap, and decrease in the round until you reach your original number of stitches. Get the perfect foot length, and shape the toe for a great fit using a technique that makes grafting a breeze. Knit cute, cozy socks you can't wait to pull on.
