Approximately 1.4 million Americans are diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes every year and the numbers are rising.  Do you want to reduce your risk?  In this course, we will discuss the risk factors for developing Type 2 diabetes and more importantly, what steps you can take to reduce your risk and improve your overall health.

Barbara LaVellee worked as a Dental Hygienist for 17 years providing oral health instruction regarding the link between oral health disease and diabetes.  She is now a Lifestyle Coach at MaineHealth, working with prediabetics to reduce their chance of getting Type 2 Diabetes.

Digital Photography Basics

Ever wonder what your camera can do once you get off of that big green AUTO setting?  Do you want to know what shutter speed, aperture, and ISO really mean and how they affect your images?  Ever wonder when it’s the right (and wrong) time to use a flash?  This course is designed to answer those questions and more.  A camera (no phone cameras, please) is required for this class, so bring it and your questions.

Richard Snow is an avid semi-pro photographer who calls Windham home.  He most enjoys shooting waterfalls and lighthouses, but also spends time shooting high school sports, portraits, and other landscapes in Maine and New Hampshire.  You may catch him on-site before sunrise or after midnight, depending on the scene he is trying to capture.

Digital Photography – Intermediate

Do you want to take your photography to the next level?  This course will focus on applying changes in Aperture, Shutter Speed, and Lighting creatively to take your photos beyond snapshots.  Examples will be given and practical usage will be performed IN CLASS, so an advanced camera with full manual settings is required.  A Digital SLR or Mirrorless Interchangeable Lens Camera is recommended.  This course will also have take-home assignments and optional critiques of your work.

Double Irish Chain Quilt or UFO (Unfinished Objects)

Come join us in a celebration of the Irish! We will be making the double Irish Chain Quilt. This pattern looks complicated, but they're actually very easy and fast to piece! You can make the size of your choice. This class is not just for quilters; any and all sewing projects are welcome! Bring lunch, snacks and sewing materials as well as an iron, ironing surface, and extension cord. Detailed instructions and materials list will be provided upon registration for the quilters. Lab fee of $10 paid to instructor for those doing the Irish Chain Quilt.

Essential Oils for Skin Care

In this session, you will learn how you can incorporate essential oils into your daily beauty regimen. This will be a hands-on workshop, where we will make a “glowing skin cleanse” in class, and you will put together a roller bottle to take home. We will also discuss common skin conditions, such as acne, aging skin, sunburn, cuts and scrapes, etc., and which essential oils can help support those ailments. You will also learn which essential oils can substitute common ingredients found in popular skin care products. Please come with a clean face, if possible (instructor will have face cleaning wipes just in case), and please let the instructor know prior to the workshop if you have any allergies to particular carrier oils such as coconut, jojoba, argan, or avocado.

Evening Indoor Walking Program

Are you looking for a dry, safe, and well-lit place to walk? Join us for a healthy way to keep fit. A walking clinic will kick off the program by providing information on techniques, proper stretching, goal setting, and record-keeping. Intro night for new participants is Monday, January 8th, 5:30 - 6:30 PM in the high school cafeteria. No need to attend if you have previously participated in the walking program. Families are welcome to walk from 3:00 – 8:00 PM after the intro night. The nominal fee covers the entire semester! Kids are free. No access 2/19 – 2/22, 4/16 -4/20.
