If you've always wanted to write but have no idea where to start, this course will demystify the process for you. You'll get a taste of the writing life, improve your writing skills, and develop new ways to stretch your creative muscles. 

This exciting, hands-on course for the creative writing novice is filled with challenging exercises, expert advice, and plenty of direct support and encouragement. As you work your way through the lessons, you'll develop your own short, creative fiction or nonfiction piece. Our emphasis in this course is on developing your skills through practice, so you'll spend more time writing than reading.

You'll master important concepts by completing enjoyable writing exercises and assignments, and you'll discover a variety of strategies and techniques the pros use to develop characters, create a compelling point of view, build interest through dialogue, and add meaning to your stories

Catherine Renaud, ABE Coordinator, has a Master’s In Secondary Education in English. She is certified to teach English grades 6-12 and adults. Catherine also has teaching endorsements in ESOL and Literacy. She has been working in adult education since 2007 and with Windham Raymond Adult Education since 2015.

Firearms Hunters Safety Course – Online and 1 Day

Firearms Hunters Safety Course – Online and 1 Day

This combined course requires that students complete the knowledge portion of the course Online and then attend a skills and exam day which is about 7 hours long.  Only after students complete the quizzes and exam are they provided with a voucher to print out and bring for admittance into the skills and exam day. In the skills and exam session students must demonstrate to the instructor that they can safely handle a firearm, participate in activities, bring in a survival kit with appropriate contents and pass a 50 question test with a grade of at least 70%. Students must complete the online course then call Windham Raymond Adult Ed and provide their voucher number to register for the Skills and Exam Day. Students must bring the voucher to the first class. Please visit www.hunter-ed.com/maine to complete the online portion of the course. Children MUST be 10 years of age or older on or after 9/9/2018 to attend.

Are you looking for a great way to explore local trails? Why not try snowshoes! Windham Parks and Recreation has Men’s, Women’s, and Youth sizes that are FREE to borrow for the day, for a few days, or for a weekend. The snowshoes may be checked out from the Parks and Recreation office Monday-Friday from 8:00am-4:00pm. Due to the popularity of this program, especially once the snow starts flying, we ask that large groups please call ahead to make sure we have the quantity you need.
