Intro to Archery for Adults

Intro to Archery for Adults

This class will cover the basics of modern archery. Students will be taught archery history, the types of bows and equipment, and range safety. Students may use their own bows after inspection.  All instruction is from certified USA Archery Instructors.  Ages are 16+. Students under 18 need a liability waiver signed by their legal guardian. No class 4/16

Instructor: Walter Selens and Archery Committee

Mondays, 3/26 – 4/23 5:30-7:00 PM for 4 sessions

Location: This class will be at the Buxton/Hollis Rod & Gun Club Archery Range.

Fee: $49

Bio: All instructors are certified USA Archery Instructors, and led by Walter Selens, chairman of the Archery Committee since 2014.

Introduction to Recreational Kayaking       

Come learn the essential skills and knowledge the novice kayaker or “never been before but always wanted to try it” paddler needs for recreational kayaking. In a one day of on-the-water instruction, we will cover a variety of kayaking fundamentals from safety equipment, rescue techniques, smooth entering and exiting, to weather and water conditions, and more. Learn the basic types of kayaks and how to select the one that is best for you. Kayaks, paddles and PFD’s for all on-the-water instruction will be provided.

Want to try the fastest-growing paddle sport in the nation?  Here is a great opportunity for the novice SUP-er or “never been before but always wanted to try it” paddler.  Come join Bill & Katelyn Allen and learn the essential skills and knowledge you need for Stand-Up Paddling, on boards especially designed for ease of use and learning.  In a one-day on-the-water instruction, we will cover the basics of SUP’s, types of boards, getting on and off, basic paddle strokes and essential safety issues. Then there will be plenty of time to practice in a quiet, flat water environment.

Lost in the Woods: Learn how to find your way with Map, Compass and GPS!

Lost in the Woods: Learn how to find your way with Map, Compass, and GPS!

Do you know how to use a map and compass? How would you find your way if the batteries on your phone died? Do you have a backup plan? This class teaches you the skills necessary to navigate on land. The course will focus on introductory map and compass skills and how to combine the two for safe and confident land navigation.  Learn how to move back and forth between true and magnetic bearings.  Learn how to plot your location on a map and then plot a path to your destination. Included will be a look at how to weave GPS into the mixture. The course will meet on four weekday nights and then wrap up with a field session. No class 4/17.

Tuesdays, 4/3 -  5/1, 6:00 – 8:00 PM for 4 sessions and 1 field session (date TBD)

Location: Windham High School – Room 127

Fee: $44

Bio: Ron Welton has taught map and compass skills for LL Bean.  He enjoys wandering around in the woods, alternating between true and magnetic north.
