Catherine Renaud, ABE Coordinator, has a Master’s In Secondary Education in English. She is certified to teach English grades 6-12 and adults. Catherine also has teaching endorsements in ESOL and Literacy. She has been working in adult education since 2007 and with Windham Raymond Adult Education since 2015.

Let’s play! Come and join Miss Elaine and other pre-school friends as we make craft projects, sing, listen to stories, and play. Children practice social skills, playing safely, sharing, taking turns, and listening. Parents and their children will enjoy rhythmic activities, finger plays, stories, motor activities, and free play with age appropriate toys. Some surprises may be in store! Space is limited – register early! Please notify us of any allergies as we ask all parents to bring a snack for their child.  No class 2/19, 4/16.

BIO:

Elaine Hawthorne, who retired after 39 years teaching at RSU14.  During her career she taught grades 2-4 and is excited to be joining Windham Raymond Adult Education to continue her passion of educating children.  She looks forward to reading singing and doing crafts with the Preschool Playgroup.  Elaine lives in Gray, she has 2 sons and a new baby Granddaughter.

Reading and Writing Essentials for ESOL

Students will practice reading English used in life, for work, school, and entertainment. The class will also give students practice writing English paragraphs and essays for formal correspondence and academic writing. This course is for ESOL students who tested as high advanced on the CASAS test (221 or higher). Students must meet with ABE Coordinator Catherine Renaud for testing and placement. Rolling admissions. Reading, Writing and Arithmetic FUNdamentals

Would you like to improve your skills in the 3 R’s? The coursework focuses on Reading (alphabetics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension), Writing (sentence, paragraph and short essays or stories) and Arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals, fractions and percentages). Classes are offered in a small group setting and will proceed at an individualized pace. Students must meet with ABE Coordinator Cathy Renaud for testing and registration. Doreen DesJardins received her ToESL certification from the College of Lake County, IL, in 2015, and a Bachelor of English in 1993. She is a retired USAF Communications Officer and avid supporter of adult continuing education.

Substitute Teacher Training

Whether you are just thinking about subbing or you are a seasoned veteran who would like to add some new ideas and “tools” to your repertoire, you’ll thoroughly enjoy this professional development opportunity.  You will be “introduced” to several schools within the RSU 14 District and their respective age levels and will meet various RSU 14 staff members.  Learn about the required substitute application paperwork and protocol, strategies to keep students on task, technology and curricula you may encounter in the classroom, tips to make lessons more appealing to reluctant learners and tried-and-true behavior modifiers from our district-wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program.  Participants must complete all 4 nights of the training to receive a differential upon subbing in RSU 14.

Bio: Rebecca Cole is a 21-year-veteran staff member in the RSU.  She is the President of Sebago East Shore Education Association and co-chair of the Supervision and Evaluation Committee for the district as well.  Rebecca is also an avid reader, kayaker, traveler, and is an actor in several regional theaters.
